The recent earthquake in Haiti was the world's attention fixed on this small island. Caribbean-American emphasis Lili Dauphin Haiti has been running for some time, manifested in his series of books that began with Hurricane Crazy Crying mountain. This first book is a Tilou girl and her experience with a hurricane devastated the region in Haiti, where she lives. Perhaps that Lili has the gift of prophecy, and after scenario described in the scenario came to the mountain crying life in Haiti after the earthquake. Or maybe it was not prophecy, but Lili perceptions that life in Haiti faces the dangers of natural disasters (among others) including knowledge about how Haiti has suffered disasters in the past.
On the mountain crying, I learned that the poorest people in small towns in Haiti live in huts with straw thatched roofs only. The richest of the population, there would be houses with tin roofs. In "I Will fly again," If children live said his last four or five years, then they are expected to live, but many children do not live as long. I learned by reading his books that many people not even have one meal a day. Although the earthquake in Chile was several times more potent than in Haiti, there was only a small fraction of the number of deaths. The reason is that lack of infrastructure, roads and highways have been built in Chile earthquake, there is a better infrastructure for the food supply and infrastructure medical supplies. Chile has a history of devastating earthquakes, tremor, and therefore has much better facilities for disaster relief. (In 1960, an earthquake struck is 9.5 magnitude.)
These books are intended to Tilou on adolescents and young adults, and also good reading and information for any person of any age. The issues raised are not entirely different from other parts of the world such as Africa. While Haiti is rebuilt, is important not to rebuild what was wrong with her, to begin with, but to replace it with something better. Something very bad in Haiti, as well as poverty, children are slaves or restaveks. Lili wrote about them in "I Will fly again: The restavek.
